Do you know the only international airport in Bhutan is 1.5 miles above sea level and surrounded by sharp peaks of up to 18000 ft tall? The airport is in Paro city. The landing in this airport is so treacherous that only few pilots are allowed to land there, and the only airline that is allowed to land there is Druk Air. It may not be the most dangerous but one of the very challenging airport to land a aircraft! The runway is shorter and planes have to weave through the dozens of houses that are scattered across the mountainside. As a passenger, it was a mind blowing experience for me to land in between the mountain peaks. 😍 I have been to Nepal too, which is also notoriously famous for its challenging landing, but my experience with Druk Air was nothing short of feel-good adventure. I loved the airport of Bhutan, only because it absolutely portraying the value and beauty of their culture. No fancy architecture, rather they opted for their traditional colourful wooden work to design every corner of the airport. Hats Off to that! ♥️
